More than half a million Arizonans could lose their health care coverage on April 1. These individuals rely on AHCCCS, the state’s Medicaid program. Now, the agency is trying to contact everyone at risk of losing their insurance.

"During COVID, state Medicaid agencies were able to suspend most disenrollment while they still renewed members, no one was disenrolled," Capriotti said.
So even if they no longer qualified for AHCCCS at that time, individuals were able to maintain coverage.
"Now that the pandemic is coming to an end, we as a state Medicaid agency are required to continue our normal business process, return to the regular renewal process, which always had been in place before COVID," Capriotti said.
And that means of the 2.5 million Arizonans currently enrolled in AHCCCS, 674,000 are at risk of losing their eligibility.
Capriotti says this also includes some Arizonans who rely on ALTCS, which covers long-term care, home and community-based services and hospice.
