The end of free COVID-19 vaccines could hurt more than just the uninsured

Changes are coming to the way COVID-19 vaccines are paid for. Over the course of the pandemic, the federal government has bought the vaccines from the manufacturers and made them free for people who wanted them.

But, as early as this fall, that program will end. That means the manufacturers will be selling doses directly to health care providers on the private market. And that means, for some patients, they’ll have to pay for those doses themselves. Moderna has said that could run up to $130 per dose.

With The Show to talk about all of this is Swapna Reddy, clinical associate professor in ASU’s College of Health Solutions.
