Vaccines and boosters still recommended as the pandemic hits its third anniversary

This week marks three years since former Gov. Doug Ducey issuedan emergency stay-at-home order in response to the worsening pandemic. And health experts are still encouraging people to get vaccinated and boosted.

Dr. Kiran Raman is with the Arizona Department of Health Services.

"What you are seeing in terms of our lower numbers in this third year is because of those vaccines and boosters," Raman said.

DHS reports there’s been nearly 2.5 million cases since the pandemic’s start, and over 33,000 deaths in the state. But the biggest spikes haven’t been seen since early 2022, in the aftermath of the Omicron outbreak.
