Attorneys for Gov. Katie Hobbs, Secretary of State Adrian Fontes and Maricopa County told the state Supreme Court that justices should reject Republican Kari Lake’s latest, and possibly final attempt, to overturn the results of the 2022 election.
In three separate legal filings, attorneys for Hobbs, Fontes and Maricopa County all note that Lake’s claims of a stolen election are not only frivolous, but they’ve already been rejected by two lower courts.
Craig Morgan, an attorney representing Fontes, told the court Lake’s lawsuit was little more than an “attempt to malign and undermine” the election process in Arizona.
The justices have not set a date to consider Lake’s petition to review the lower court rulings.
They can, but are not required, to grant a hearing.
On top of denying Lake’s appeal, opposing attorneys have asked that she and her counsel be ordered to pay their legal fees.
