Residents of Caborca once again experienced a night of terror Sunday as rival cartels clashed in the city in the northwestern part of Sonora, burning vehicles and leaving seven people dead and four injured.
State security officials say two people have been arrested, and 11 weapons and 10 vehicles seized.
In recent years, Caborca has become one of the most violent cities in Sonora, experiencing shootouts, kidnappings and killings. While the murder rate statewide finally dropped slightly in 2022 after seven record-setting years — in Caborca, homicide cases were up by 25% with 155 murders.
