In a bipartisan vote, the Arizona Senate overwhelmingly passed a Democrat-driven bill that would ban the conversion of state-maintained streets and highways into toll roads.
Sen. Juan Mendez called the modern toll road system "backwards," "corrupt” and an invasion of privacy.
“The National Motorists Association reminds us that most new toll roads aren’t going to be new roads at all. They’re going to be existing interstates or interstate corridors converted to toll roads. The same corridors and roads for which we already paid for," Mendez said.
The bill now moves over to the House.
