Arizona bill would require new elections for voting center delays, other conditions

The Arizona Senate preliminarily approved a bill that would require new elections any time a certain number of voters claim they waited 90 minutes to vote.

The number of voters required is based on the size of the county. For a county with a population of 1 million or more, it would require 1,000 to sign affidavits.

Smaller counties would only require 250.

The bill does not differentiate between people who could or could not vote due to wait times.

The same rules would apply to those claiming they witnessed an election official fail to comply with the procedures manual, or failure to maintain chain of custody of ballots.

Opponents worry it would delegitimize elections, and create logistical problems with deadlines to certify results.

The bill needs final approval by the Senate before going to the House.
