Arizona is now averaging the fifth-highest gas price in the country. AAA says the state is averaging $4.17 as of Friday.
Patrick DeHaan, with Gas-Buddy, says this continues a trend of high prices, up over 50 cents a gallon in the last month.
DeHaan cited a combination of factors, one of which is supply and demand.
“I’ve seen the wholesale price of gasoline start to slow down in recent days. That could be suggested that retail prices could start slowing down in the next week or so. But a lot of it’s contingent on how motorists respond," DeHaan said.
Oil refineries, supplying many Arizona gas pumps, are still under maintenance, which could fuel the high prices for a couple more weeks.
