U.S. Postal Service releases stamp recognizing NASA OSIRIS-REx space mission

The U.S. Postal Service announced its latest stamp honoring the OSIRIS-REx space mission. In 2016, the mission began as a joint effort between NASA, the University of Arizona and Lockheed Martin to study and map the asteroid Bennu.

The stamp’s illustration depicts how the spacecraft is designed to parachute down on the asteroid in September at the end of its mission.

William Gicker is the director of stamp services.

“We do quite a bit with space on our stamps through our stamp program, milestones, achievements, and this was such an interesting mission," he said.

According to Gicker, USPS receives 30,000 public suggestions for stamps. He said the public reacts positively to space-themed postage stamps.
