The Arizona Board of Nursing is allowing the embattled Aspen University to continue its nursing program for now.
The board agreed on Thursday that Aspen could continue teaching several hundred of its existing students and allow them to graduate as planned, but with extra oversight.
Board members previously met back in February to alert Aspen University about their intention to almost immediately end the program after concerns were raised about the safety of patients.
Aspen University stopped admitting new students into the program last year. The school was later put on disciplinary probation by the Board of Nursing for its low pass rate on a nationwide exam known as the NCLEX, among other violations.
