Phoenix police have one suspect in custody in connection to Friday’s shooting of one of their officers who responded to a reported car crash at a home near 11th Avenue and Atlanta Avenue in south Phoenix.
The officer was wounded but is recovering in the hospital.
Interim Phoenix Police Chief Michael Sullivan said in a Friday press conference this incident follows others in recent weeks where suspects have pulled guns on officers. “What I can tell you, is the majority of those suspects who’ve pulled guns on us recently are prohibited possessors. They shouldn’t have guns in the first place,” he said.
In a press release, the department said the suspect, Joesph Lopez, will face attempted murder and other felony charges.
