Arizona’s Republican superintendent recently created a statewide hotline for parent complaints. Now, the Legislature is moving forward with a bill that would do something similar in individual Arizona school districts.
The amended version of Senate Bill 1410 directs district governing boards to establish a method for each school within a district to receive and investigate parental complaints.
Then on a quarterly basis, schools must provide data to the district governing board.
That would include the number of complaints, whether or not they were resolved and what action will be taken in response.
Those would be sent to the Arizona Department of Education to create a comprehensive report.
Republican Sen. Justine Wadsack is the bill’s sponsor.
“It will help everybody come together and say, ‘ OK, here are the problems in the school district and here are the problems in this school district’ and actually start trying to figure out how to fix them," she said.
Republicans on the house education committee advanced the bill on a party-line vote.
