ASU West adding 3 new schools to northwest Phoenix campus

Arizona State University has announced plans to expand its campus near 51 Avenue and Thunderbird Road in northwest Phoenix. The university’s latest project comes in response to the ever-growing West Valley.

ASU intends to install three new schools: the School of Technology, Innovation and Entrepreneurship, the School of Interdisciplinary Forensics and the School of Integrated Engineering.

Nancy Gonzalez, the university provost, spoke at a groundbreaking ceremony earlier this week.

“The combination of the strong foundation that has already been built here with these new schools will offer opportunities to build the city and the state and provide opportunities to students that they cannot currently get on any of our other ASU campuses," she said.

Larry Penley, chairman of the Arizona Board of Regents, spoke of the effect of establishing the programs.

“It will drive enrollment from Arizona and outside Arizona and outside the United States, building the kind of workforce that this community and related communities here really deserve," he said.

The new programs are expected to open later this fall.

ASU also plans to create an education complex under the Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College, and build a large residential hall for new students to accommodate enrollment growth at the expanded West Campus.
