Díaz: Deadly fire in Mexico was a direct result of extreme border policies

At least 39 migrants mainly from Central and South America were killed in a fire at a detention facilityjust across the border from El Paso, Texas, last week.

Reports show they had lit their mattresses on fire in protest of their pending deportation.

The tragedy has sparked outrage from many on both sides of the border — including Elvia Díaz, editorial page editor of the Arizona Republic, who says this is the direct result of extreme border policies by both Mexico and the United States.
