Tuzigoot National Monument closed as fire crews battle winds

Tuzigoot National Monument in the Verde Valley area has closed to the public after a fire broke out Sunday.

A National Park Service spokeswoman said the fire was reported at 6 p.m. and firefighters are still building a perimeter around the blaze.

Powerful 40 mph winds are a concern as the 100-acre fire burns through brush.

A second fire, the Texas Summit Fire in western Cochise County, was fully contained over the weekend after burning about 450 acres.
