Lifesaving Narcan will be available over the counter soon, but cost remains a question

Last week, the FDA took a big step forward in countering the ongoing opioid crisis in this country: approving over-the-counter sales of Narcan.

That’s the brand name version of naloxone, which can rapidly reverse an opioid overdose with either a nasal spray or injection.

Overdoses are the leading cause of accidental deaths in the country, and advocates say easy access to Narcan could be a game-changer.

Haley Coles is Executive Director of Sonoran Prevention Works, which works in harm reduction for drug users in Arizona. She joined The Show to talk more about it.
