Ahead of Easter Sunday, St. Mary’s Food Bank is handing out hams to families in need on Thursday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Jerry Brown is the food bank’s director of public relations. He said between their two locations in Phoenix and Surprise, they’ve been serving about 1,400 families a day.
“So we’re expecting to see that number again," Brown said. "That’s been a pretty steady number over the last few months. Inflation has really impacted the number of people to the point where we’re seeing more families now than we did during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.”
Hickman’s Eggs has also donated a dozen eggs for each family.
"Not only to color ahead of Easter Sunday, but then to go ahead and eat," Brown said. "With the prices of eggs being that high, it's great that we're able to pass that along to some of our clients."
