The Big Sandy Shoot is the world’s biggest machine-gun shoot. It happens twice a year in Wikieup, Arizona, about two hours northwest of Phoenix on the way to Kingman.
It’s the subject of a piece in Esquire Magazine, called “Gunsapalooza.” Ander Monson wrote the piece. He’s also a teacher at the University of Arizona.
Monson is no stranger to guns. He grew up in upper Michigan, where he says guns are a fact of life and a utilitarian thing to have around. But Big Sandy, he says, was different.
The Show spoke with Monson about his visit to the shoot and what exactly it’s all about.
