Arizona Legislature forms ad hoc committee to study the state's water problems

Although winter rains have filled some reservoirs and brought some drought relief, water security remains a problem for Arizona.

The Legislature recently took measures to study the issue.

Although the lawmakers failed to pass significant water legislation this year, they have created an ad hoc committee to look at state resources, strengthen supplies and address the direction the state may want to go in the future.

The Joint Legislative Water Committee released a statement that said water is critical to the state and remains a priority.

It has until the end of the year to study the problem and present a report on its findings.

Rep. Gail Griffin (R-Sierra Vista) and Sen. Sine Kerr, (R-Buckeye) — chairs of the House and Senate Natural Resources committees, respectively — will lead the new panel.
