Tonto National Forest and San Carlos Apache Tribe conduct prescribed burn operation

A cross-boundary forest restoration project began Saturday to treat national forest next to reservation lands.

Crews with the Tonto National Forest and San Carlos Apache Tribe are conducting a prescribed burn operation about 100 miles east of Phoenix near the Timber Camp Recreation Area and Group Campgrounds close to Globe.

Motorists are recommended to drive carefully on U.S. Route 60 as they may encounter smoke impacts from the operation, which is expected to last until April 29.
