Democratic U.S. Rep. Ruben Gallego raised $3.8 million in the first quarter of this year as a candidate for Senate.
That is considerably more than the $2.1 million raised by incumbent Kyrsten Sinema.
It’s a fundraising record for Sinema and just after she announced her leave from the Democratic party.
The now independent has not yet declared whether she’ll seek re-election. But the party change could create a three-way race for the seat.
Last week, Pinal County Sheriff Mark Lamb was the first Republican to announce a Senate run.
Lamb’s first fundraising report to the Federal Election Commission is due in July.
