Phoenix's winter rain may lead to more West Nile virus cases

The wet winter in the Phoenix metro area could lead to more mosquitoes this summer and a possibility of more West Nile virus cases.

So far this year, the Arizona Department of Health Services has only reported one case. Last year there were 75. In 2021, there were more than 1,700 cases of West Nile reported in Arizona.

The Show spoke with Irene Ruberto, manager for the vector-borne and zoonotic disease team at the state health department, on what to expect this year.
