This Saturday, Scottsdale Community College is hosting an open house for those who want to study visual and performing arts.
Peggy Deal, director of the visual communication program at the college, said the event, dubbed “Friends & Neighbors,” is more than just a meet-and-greet as attendees can engage in hands-on activities led by instructors.
“There’s going to be a lot of what we call ‘make-and-takes’ in different areas where they’ll be able to do things in sculpture, in photo and in visual communication to actually experience some of the techniques we teach," Deal said.
Deal said the event is open to prospective students who want to pursue a full-time career, and also those who just want to dabble in a specific class taught by a professional instructor.
“We get a lot of people who just want to take a painting class. ‘I just want to come in and paint. I haven’t painted for 30 years. I want to come in and pick it back up again,’ or, ‘I think it would be really fun to do jewelry. I’ve never done anything like that before,’” Deal said.
Registration is required. The open house runs from 8-11 a.m.
