Fontes urging AZ Legislature to allocate more money for 2024 election preparation

To prepare for the 2024 election, Arizona Secretary of State Adrian Fontes and his allies are urging the Legislature to allocate an extra $4.2 million from the 2024 state budget. He  is also asking for $3 million from the existing federal “Help America Vote Act” money.

“We want to bolster our training and capacity to support all 15 of Arizona’s counties, who are the folks who actually put our elections on. We need to upgrade our security profile, both personnel-wise and for our information technology systems," Fontes said.

He says 10 out of 15 counties are missing senior election officials, so resources are needed to build it back up, as well as combat elections lies and misinformation.
