In the Coronado National Forest, recreational shooting has now been suspended permanently on the eastern side of Huachuca Mountains.
The ban has been instituted due to health and safety conflicts for forest users and those participating in shooting activities.
“This area is part of the wild urban interface, and we’ve had a temporary closure in place since 2014 for these canyons, and it is because it’s a very populated visited area where people like to go, and they have their houses, and they like to recreate and so it’s not ideal for shooting," said Starr Farrell, public affairs officer for the forest.
Other concerns include the possibility of shooting into a person’s backyard or across hiking trails.
According to Farrell, those who violate the restrictions will face the possibility of fines.
