Spring in Arizona means baby animals. Here's what to do if you see one alone

Many wildlife species throughout Arizona, including deer and javelina, are giving birth this time of year. So you may come across some baby animals that appear to be abandoned.

But it’s best to leave them alone.

"We understand that those critters are really cute. And people think with their heart. But they need to think with their head, and recognize that a life in captivity, separated from their mother, is not the best way to go for a juvenile or baby wildlife," said Mark Hart with the Arizona Game and Fish Department.

Hart says mother animals often leave babies behind when foraging for food, and do their best to hide them from threats, including humans.
