The state Legislature is close to passing a bill that would regulate how national and international social media companies manage posts from politicians.
The bill has language that says once people become candidates for any public office, they cannot have their posting rights revoked, with few exceptions.
Any violations of companies would result in fines up to $250,000 a day.
Amy Bos with NetChoice told lawmakers that the bill would violate the First Amendment by telling private firms what they have to post.
Rep. Leezah Sun argued that state regulation would be limited since most social media companies aren’t based in Arizona, citing the interstate commerce clause in the Constitution.
