Modern trains can be more than 3 miles long, which increases the risk of derailment

Recent train derailments have brought renewed attention to railroad safety, and the length of trains has been a big part of that conversation.

Topher Sanders is an Investigative Reporter with ProPublica and was part of a team that worked on a story about train safety, called the True Dangers of Long Trains.

Sanders spoke with The Show about what he has learned on the history of trains and how the length of present-day trains compares to past ones.
