The state’s Medicaid program won’t have money to pay its bill next month unless the governor and lawmakers reach a deal on the budget.
Legislative budget staffers say AHCCCS requested an additional $3.3 billion to finish off the fiscal year.
Last month, lawmakers approved funding to cover half of that. But without the rest, the agency will not be able to make payments to managed care plans due in May and June.
Senate President Warren Petersen says funding to finish this fiscal year has become bogged down with debates over next year’s budget.
However, House Minority Leader Andrés Cano said the GOP majority had the chance to approve the full funding plan for Medicaid.
Nearly $200 million is also needed for K-12 schools, among other state operated programs.
