The state Senate is expected to approve Ben Henry as director of the Department of Liquor Licenses and Control, following a unanimous vote from a committee on director nominations.
A key concern was whether Henry would use his department for undercover operations to ensure bar compliance.
The discussion came following a 2020 incident where a department detective reportedly attempted to touch an erotic dancer’s genitals during an investigation.
Henry says that won’t happen during his tenure.
"We will train. But we will not be in any of those type of clubs doing those sting operations. We just don't .... First of all, we have 17 agents for the entire state,” he said.
He added any instances of laws being broken will be forwarded to law enforcement agencies.
