The Phoenix Suns and Mercury announced a deal with Gray Television to broadcast games on KTVK, Arizona’s Family 3TV and CBS5, and KPHE, AZ Family Sports Network.
That will cover the Phoenix, Tucson and Yuma markets.
According to a release, Suns and Mercury games will be available to nearly 2.8 million households in Arizona, reportedly tripling the number of homes able to access the games.
Along with broadcast, games will be livestreamed on Suns or Mercury branded apps as a part of a deal with the company Kiswe.
As the team moves away from Bally Sports, the deal drew criticism from Bally owner Diamond Sports group.
“The Phoenix Suns breached our contract and violated bankruptcy law, and Diamond Sports Group will pursue all remedies against any parties that attempt to exercise control over our property interests while we reorganize. This is an improper effort by the Suns to change their broadcasting partner without permitting Diamond to exercise our contractual rights," a Diamond Sports spokesperson said.
Suns and Mercury CEO Josh Bartelstein issued a statement disagreeing.
"Diamond's position is totally inaccurate. We are moving forward with this deal and could not be more excited about what it means for our fans and our future," said Bartelstein.
The deal with the Suns is set to last five years and the Mercury's will last for two.
