A federally mandated commission that focuses on the disappearances and murders of Indigenous people in the Untied States will be holding a public hearing in Flagstaff on May 9.
The Not Invisible Act Commission was formed a few years ago to develop recommendations for how to coordinate resources for survivors and families of victims.
The commission’s members were appointed by the departments of interior and Justice in order to make recommendations for Congress for how to combat the violence.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the murder rate for women living on reservations is 10 times the national average, and murder is the third leading cause of death for Native women.
