Bill awaiting AZ House approval to limit children's access to internet pornography

A bill that would require Internet service providers to verify the age of users to access pornography on the internet is waiting for a final vote in the state House.

Providers would have to block websites at a parent’s request if at least a third of its content is considered harmful to minors, as defined by the Legislature.

Speaking against government overstep, Republican Rep. Alexander Kolodin added an amendment that allows parents to decide which devices can visit such sites.

“The government doesn't get to say, 'This speech is socially undesirable, consume less of it, like that is emphatically not our role," Kolodin said.

As the bill stands, providers would be subject to civil liability for damages resulting from minors accessing so-called harmful material.
