Mesa sports facility owner files for bankruptcy

Legacy Cares Inc., which is the owner of Legacy Park, a 320-acre sports facility in Mesa, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

It says the facility, located near the Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport, will remain open with normal operations while its owner has hired an investment firm and a new management company.

Legacy Cares’ president said it will use this process to “support the Park’s business operations,” “address Legacy Cares’ debt obligations” and pursue a “possible sale of … assets.”

The nonprofit owes more than $366 million to more than 200 creditors, according to court filings.
