AZ Attorney General Mayes calls for reversal of Texas Mifepristone ruling

Arizona Democratic Attorney General Kris Mayes has joined a multistate coalition of attorneys general.

They’re trying to protect access to the abortion drug, mifepristone.

Mayes filed an amicus brief, alongside attorneys general from more than 20 other states who want the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit to reverse a ruling by a judge in Texas.

The ruling invalidated the FDA’s 23-year-old approval of the drug.

In a statement Tuesday, Mayes said “We cannot allow anti-abortion activists and an extremist judge to undo over two decades of medical consensus."

According to the brief, since the FDA approved the drug in 2000, more than five million people have used it to safely terminate pregnancies or manage miscarriages.
