A youth choir from the Sonoran capital Hermosillo is teaming up with two orchestras in Phoenix for a pair of concerts on Saturday and Sunday.
The Coro Infantil de Hermosillo — or Hermosillo Youth Choir — will join in the finale of an orchestral concert in Phoenix.
"This concert we have this weekend is called Musica Sin Fronteras," said Diogo Pereira, executive director of the Harmony Project Phoenix, which provides free music education to low-income students.
About 45 of those students will perform alongside MusicaNova Ochestra — a professional ensemble.
"We have the particular mission of this concert," Pereira said. "To use music as a way to transcend borders. To celebrate the unity of the Sonoran Desert."
The concert will feature music by Latin American composers, including three works by Sonora’s Arturo Marquez.
The performanceon Saturday, May 6, is at 7 p.m. at South Mountain Community College. On Sunday, May 7, the same concert will be performed at 3 p.m. at Central United Methodist Church.
All ticket sales and donations for the Sunday show will go directly the to Coro Infantil de Hermosillo.
