HUD sending Arizona $6.1M to create affordable housing

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development says it is sending $6.1 million to Arizona to create affordable housing.

The sum is more than double the minimum states get from the Housing Trust Fund, which is fueled by contributions from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac — the U.S. companies that guarantee most mortgages.

The program bolsters other federal, state and local efforts to grow and maintain housing for families that earn very little money and may live on the street.
