U.S. Sen. Mark Kelly appeared at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida for his U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame induction ceremony Saturday. Kelly was selected for the honor back in February.
He appeared alongside Roy D. Bridges, who was also recognized for his accomplishments in space exploration and discovery. The senator traveled into space on four trips, including a flight on the space shuttle Endeavour. He retired from NASA in 2011 to attend to the needs of his wife Gabrielle Giffords as she recovered from injuries sustained during a Tucson shooting earlier that year.
On social media, Kelly said joining the other astronauts in the hall is “something special.” Scott Kelly, the senator’s twin brother, was previously inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2021.
