The Arizona Corporation Commission regulates the state’s utilities. The watchdog agency also wants tighter regulations for public comment at some of its meetings.
The commissioners voted last week to keep a draft of those rules private, but through a public-records request, KJZZ News found out what’s in the works.
The commission is considering 13 rules governing public comment at its open meetings, according to a supplement to a records request released late Wednesday.
The rules encourage speakers with shared opinions to choose a spokesperson and limit commenters to a three minutes per agenda item if they make a deadline to sign up.
Sizes of signs with messages would also be limited and people needing an interpreter would have to give 48 hours notice.
A spokesperson could not say if the public-comment rules would be considered at the agency’s meeting this morning, but a revised agenda says that they will be part of a discussion and potential vote.
