Sen. Steve Kaiser: Arizona needs zoning reform to solve housing supply problem

When the legislative session began in January, housing was routinely listed as one of the top issues lawmakers needed to deal with And there are provisions in the Arizona budget that aim to help alleviate the state’s housing crisis.

But Arizona Sen. Steve Kaiser has some other approaches he's still working on.

Kaiser had sponsored a bill earlier in the session that tackled issues like requiring cities to allow higher density and backyard guest houses, among many other things; the Senate voted that bill down.

Now the Phoenix Republican is working with colleagues on both sides of the aisle to try to revive some of the provisions of that measure. The Show spoke with him on the issue.
