$609 million wagered in sports betting during February in Arizona

$609 millionwere wagered on sports betting in Arizona during February.

That is a slight increase compared to January, but the figure is $117 million more than February of last year.

Max Hartgraves with the state Department of Gaming says a big event in Arizona this year could have played a role.

"Generally speaking, the Super Bowl is one of the most popular events for wagering across the U.S. So February tends to be a strong month for wagering. not only in Arizona, but across U.S. jurisdictions," he said.

Hartgraves added that winter months often experience higher amounts of betting due to more sports seasons being played.

Event wagering privilege fees totaled over $1.6 million in the month, $39 million in fees have been collected by the state since sports betting was legalized.
