The Arizona Department of Education says it will recommend that the state Board of Education approve grants for armed school resource officers at six schools in the Phoenix Union High School District.
It got rid of officers on its campuses in 2020 and decided against bringing them back last week.
In a statement, State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Horne called the move “a slap to the leadership” and teachers of the schools who have asked for them to be brought back.
