Groups behind minimum wage increase like what they see in Arizona's new budget

A group at the front of efforts in recent years to raise the minimum wage is applauding Gov. Katie Hobbs’ leadership on the budget she signed this week.

Living United for Change in Arizona, or LUCHA, is especially happy with investments in infrastructure, affordable housing, help paying for college and expanding kids health insurance.

Alejandra Gomez is executive director of the Arizona Center for Empowerment, which is LUCHA’s advocacy arm.

“We were able to accomplish a dialogue with the governor and she listened to the priorities of our members," Gomez said.

Gomez said issues to be addressed in future budgets are funding temporary assistance for needy families, affordable child care and paid sick leave.
