The Phoenix metro area is one of six regions nationwide that’s been tapped to participate in a new White House program to address homelessness.
The White House ALL INside initiative will embed a federal official in the Phoenix area and in the other participating regions. The goal is to streamline the process of getting federal aid for city or state-level homelessness programs.
At the virtual launch ceremony for the new program, Mesa Mayor John Giles said that’s crucial, since the crisis can’t be solved by just one city or one agency.
“The federal commitment through this ALL INside initiative is a more direct way to partner with the federal government on local solutions to address homelessness in Mesa and our region. I have to say it’s a great step in the right direction and we are grateful and excited to be able to participate," Giles said.
The other regions selected to participate are Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, Seattle and the state of California.
The program is part of the White House’s strategic plan for homelessness which has a goal of reducing homelessness by 25% nationwide by 2025.
