DPS urges caution in work zones after construction worker killed in crash

Construction zones have been popping up overnight on parts of Interstate 10. Earlier this week, a construction worker was killed after a semi truck crashed into the boom lift he was operating near the Broadway Curve.

Bart Graves is with the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

“A construction boom lift came out of that closure and crossed the number three and number four lanes trying to get to the right shoulder. A semi truck at that time struck the operator cage of the boom lift and threw the operator from that cage," Graves said.

Impairment was not suspected, but Graves says they are looking into decision making, speed and fatigue.

Officials are asking drivers to use caution in work zones.
