Bureau of Land Management issues fire restrictions in western AZ for Memorial Day weekend

The Bureau of Land Management is imposing campfire and smoking restrictions at 8 a.m. Friday in portions of Yuma, La Paz and Mohave counties.

Campfires will be restricted to developed campgrounds while smoking will be banned except for in enclosed vehicles or buildings where allowed. Propane stoves will be permitted.

Bureau spokesperson Dolores Garcia says western Arizona has not had the wet weather the rest of the state has seen.

"Most of the state was very wet, especially through the winter. Some of the recent rains didn’t quite get to that Yuma, La Paz, and portions of Mohave County, and we’ve noticed activity there," Garcia said.

Much of Arizona will see dry and windy weather this Memorial Day weekend.
