Tempe Town Lake and Kiwanis Lake install flotation devices

The city of Tempe is installing rescue flotation devices at Tempe Town Lake and Kiwanis Park Lake.

Swimming is prohibited at both of these lakes, but this installation comes just over a year after a controversial Tempe Town Lake drowning where two police officers didn’t go in after a man. T he man’s family is now suing.

Community Services Director Craig Hayton says if someone gets into the water, a person on the shore should first call 911, then toss in a flotation device.

These orange devices will be located in cabinets at lake access points and have a hundred feet of rope. It’ll take a couple of weeks to get them installed at the lakes.
