Cheerleading could be headed to the Olympics in 2028

Cheerleading — long known for its pep and hair bows — could be on its way to becoming an Olympic sport. It’s changing the game for many girls who are dedicated to the sport and could open up doors for cheer on an international stage.

The International Olympic Committee officially recognized cheerleading as a sport in 2021 and the goal is to get it into the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.

Cheer has changed a lot in the last couple of decades, from the sidelines of high school football games to pyramids and gravity-defying stunts. Now, the sport is all about athletics — and competition.

The Show spoke more about it all with Lauri Harris, executive director of  USA Cheer.
