Democratic Gov. Katie Hobbs claims to have a deal to let Maricopa County voters decide if they want to extend a half-cent sales tax for transportation projects.
But Democratic State Rep. Athena Salman says that Republican legislative leaders are refusing to put the deal up for a vote.
"If the president decided to stop feeding to the obstructionist wing of his caucus and put this thing to the board, it would pass with bipartisan support. The problem is that the president is refusing to put this thing up," Salman said.
Senate President Warren Petersen says Republicans, who control the House and Senate, are not interested in what Hobbs and the Maricopa Association of Governments have to offer. GOP lawmakers could reveal their own plan Monday.
