The U.S. put up 1,800 lights at the southern border. Turning them on could cause huge problems

A new analysis raises concerns about a series of stadium lights installed along the country’s southern border, and the impacts they could have on the species that live there.

The Tucson-based Center for Biological Diversity found more than 1,800 lights have been put up, although not yet turned on. The report suggests if they are, it would be problematic for all sorts of species, from bats and mammals to birds and insects.

Russ McSpadden worked on the report. He’s a Southwest conservation advocate at the Center for Biological Diversity, and he joined The Show to talk more about the concerns with these lights.
